CodeMark
The CodeMark Scheme is a building product certification scheme for Australia and New Zealand. The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) and New Zealand’s Department of Building and Housing (DBH) manage the scheme in their respective countries.
The Scheme was reviewed in 2012 with a number of recommendations resulting in the ABCB Board supporting enhancement of the Scheme. This has resulted in the development of the Codemark Australia Scheme Rules which only cover the CodeMark Australia Scheme. CodeMark will continue to operate in New Zealand under separate New Zealand CodeMark Scheme Rules.
To differentiate the CodeMark schemes that operate in Australia and New Zealand, the Australian scheme is called ‘CodeMark Australia’. A new certification trade mark with this name has also been introduced. While the ABCB will retain oversight of the scheme on behalf of the Commonwealth and all States and Territories, the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) will be responsible for both accrediting Certification Bodies and administration of the Scheme.
State and Territory building control legislation requires building control authorities to accept CodeMark Australia Certificates of Conformity as evidence of compliance with the BCA, as long as the product is used as specified on the certificate.
SAI Global as an approved certification body will evaluate and certify products to ensure they meet the specified requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and/or the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC). Any organization seeking to have their product evaluated for CodeMark can apply to SAI Global directly.
